My plans have changed a few times in the last few weeks. Since the family I was originally supposed to stay with for a month would only let me stay my first 5 nights in Salvador, I looked at a few options. One was a Portuguese school and the other Morro de São Paulo was working in a small pousada (guesthouse) on an island near Salvador in the city of São Paulo (aided and free). I just signed up to start a week of classes in Salvador, and then I heard from the pousada that they had a spot for me, so I decided to go for a few weeks.
Yesterday was my last day of classes in Salvador. I took my backpack with me in the morning, because Matthew and I wanted to go bikini shopping after class (him for his girlfriend and me for myself), and then I had to go straight to the boat from there.
I said goodbye to school, went to a bikini shop, and then tried to grab a quick lunch. Unfortunately, by the time the food arrived, I already had to take a taxi, so I ate a few bites and left.
I find transportation apps a bit confusing, as they change meeting points, so I never know where I’m supposed to be. I eventually found my ride and headed to the port. I arrived a bit late, there was no room on the direct boat. Instead, I have to do the boat/bus/boat combo (takes longer, but less seasickness). We arrived in Moro de Sao Paulo around 6:30pm. The Pousada is a short walk from the port. My host Warner greeted me and got me settled, then I headed back into town to do some shopping and make myself some dinner. The island is extremely safe, which is really nice. No problem going out with your cell phone, no need to be careful.
This morning I woke up early and had a long walk to Quarte Praia (4th beach), on the way to and from the beach, then had breakfast. The pousada only has 2 rooms and only one checkout today, so I will clean the room after they check out, then help with some gardening and go to the beach in the afternoon.
